     Constructed on the site that was once occupied by the Grand Mosque of the old Arabic city, the church is the result of various centuries of construction. The first phase of construction was completed at the end of the 15th century or the beginning of the 16th century and, after various setbacks, was finally completed at the end of the 18th century.
